Yay Mario! (Day 149)

I didn't work on cosplay today, but I was reminded why I cosplayed Mario. I played Super Mario World Wii with a member of my cosplay group. That game makes me love Mario Brothers all over again. It reminds me so much of the original games, which were my favorite, of course. Sure, it's a little different, but it's a challenging side-scroller with the same basic rules, and that's all that matters. ♥

That reminds me though! My group may have actually decided on a name! Well, we're choosing a=between a couple. Either "Cardboard Cutout Cosplay" or simply "Cardboard Cosplay", I came up with both (no one else bothers to think of things). I really want to use the word "cardboard" though. I feel like it metaphorically embodies everything that is cosplay. Using random materials in ways they were probably never meant to be used. Taking seemingly "garbage" and turning into something completely unrecognizable. I love the feeling of saying "Oh, yeah, I made this out of a toilet paper roll" and getting the response of "Whaaat?" or "Wow!" But "Toilet Paper Cosplay" just doesn't sound as good xD Theo nly reason I'm shying away from "Cardboard Cutout Cosplay" is that I don't want it to give the impression that "cutout" refers to what cosplays we choose or how we make them. We are not cookie-cutter replicates of other cosplay groups, we are our own group, we choose our own cosplays and our own ways of making them.

Anyway, yes, so far, two out of three of the other group members like it, the third hasn't heard it yet, as far as I know, so at this point, I'm thinking we are "Cardboard Cosplay", even though I'd rather it be three words -.- Ugh. I don't know xD This is exactly why we don't have a name yet.

Cosplay Daze (Days 126 & 127)

Woah. Today was crazy. In a good way =]
I went to the mall with my friend, I dressed as Mario and she dressed as Ash Ketchum. It was pretty much awesome. Little kids freaked out when they saw us, haha. Little kids are awesome sometimes. Y'know, when I don't have to put up with them. Yeah, a couple of people make rude comments, but whatever. I don't really let it get to me.

Then when I came home, my boyfriend came over and we took pictures of my Amaterasu and Chi cosplays. Got some decent ones and came up with a pose for me to do at the con tomorrow. It's kinda meh, but whatever xD

I Has A Mario (Day 114)

I actually worked on my Mario hat today *gasp*! I crudely sewed on the white circle, heh. I really don't care enough to spend hours doing a "good" job on it. It's decent, and no one will care. Lady Mario is one of those costumes that I don't care for attention in, despite winning an award with it.

I may later sew yellow or gold buttons to my overalls, but if I don't have them already on-hand, I probably won't bother. Maybe after purchasing the fabric for my boyfriend's Hideki jacket, I'll use some scraps and cover the buttons. Or something. I don't care enough to trouble myself over it.

Day Ninety-Four

I almost didn't post today because I was hoping to get to bed at a "decent" time. AHAHA! I crack myself up. It'll never happen. In any case, nothing cosplay-related today. I'm too addicted to WiiFit to work on cosplay. Which is both good and bad, because I'm getting in spectacular shape, which, in my opinion, will make my cosplays looks better on me, but at this rate, I won't have any cosplays to wear. Hmm... What to do, what to do?

Anyway, I added some links to the blog to help organize the informative posts better. I'm also very seriously considering making a blog specifically for health and beauty post (makeup and such). Eh, gimme your thoughts if you care.

Next time I get the chance, hopefully some time this week or next, I'd like to update this blog with posts about each of my costumes, along with reference pictures, short biographies, links to more information, and pictures of my cosplays.

I also have a new costume I want to make *sigh* but it won't be until almost a year from now (next Winter) so no big deal really. I'll post about that some other time.

My boyfriend made me really happy today cosplay-wise. I was telling him about my ideas to better handle the money part of getting a hotel room for two says at Fanime, and he said he was really excited for it and wanted it to be now. I asked him why, and, to my shock, his first reason was because he wanted to cosplay! =O I'm so proud. He also wants a sword >_> As do I... Anyway, I guess this means that I can't ignore his costumes in a last resort attempt to save time and money. But it's a lot more worth it now to know that he really wants to do them. ^-^

Speaking of his costumes, I'm actually looking forward to making his boo (Super Mario Bros) costume, probably more than I should be. Surprisingly enough, I got the idea on how to make it from an issue of TOKYOPOP's free magazine. I read through the article several years ago just for the hell of it, thinking I'd never use it, but lo and behold, it will be put to good use! Let's just hope that I get better at paper-mache-ing things =/ It's not exactly my forte...

It Snuck Up On Me (Day Seventy-One)

I think Holiday Anime Faire really snuck up on me because I've been looking forward to Fanime so much. I was so preoccupied by planning, how to save money, deciding when and the best way how to reserve a hotel, starting a new costume (Chi) for it, there was no time for poor little Holiday Anime Faire. It's a good thing it's only $10 or whatever to get in, or I'd be pissed at how unprepared I am, haha. I mean, my costume's done, it's just not where I'd like it to be.

I had to do a last-minute patch-up job on Ammy's shield today, because the strap fell off at the last convention I wore it to (Kin-Yoobi Con), and it wouldn't stay up right with just one strap. Other than that, I didn't finish the shoulder "wings," I only got the arm bands done, so I'll be wearing those. And I didn't Finish re-surfacing the feet, in fact, one of them is falling apart. It should survive a few hours tomorrow though.

Boy, I sure hope I win that costume contest. I won before with a costume that I didn't think was that great (Lady Mario), so I'll be really disappointed if I lose with Ammy. Unless the people who beat me have really kick-ass costumes. Which I don't expect because I seriously suspect that the only really good cosplayers in my city are in my cosplay group, haha, all three of us xD That's not to say that there aren't other good cosplayers, they just don't seem to attend this particular convention. Or enter the costume contest.

Mario, Midterms, & Mochi (Day Twenty-Seven)

Last night, I decided "I want to go to class dressed at Mario for my midterm!" So today, I did. Only two people recognized me, which astounded me to no end, but other people said that I looked cute. Apparently they "love just watching me, 'cause I'm so cute," haha. My boyfriend took me out for frozen yogurt with mochi after my midterm, which I finished in half an hour (the allotted time period was three hours). When I got home, I had to change so that my mom didn't give me funny looks.

I then looked up information to help me with the convention I'm helping plan, I found more than I was expecting to, so I was pleased about that. I have to look over some stuff tonight and print things out to get ready for the convention-planning meeting tomorrow. We're almost ready to put an event list up, surprisingly. The convention isn't even until August, haha, thanks to me, we're about six months ahead of schedule, and that's not just me having a big head, that's what they told me. I have the feeling that I could pull off a decent convention with only two months to plan. That lady that turned down my help for her conventions (she runs two) will seriously regret it.
