Next week, we’ll be at the 41st annual Comic-Con International in San Diego with a full slate of activities. If you are at the Con, stop by the Microsoft booth (#5252) where we will have one of the first hands-on experience with the new Gears of War 3 Horde mode. You can also visit the Xbox Lounge at the Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, to get an early taste of eagerly awaited Kinect and Xbox 360 titles.

Join them to discuss what it takes to be successful in multiple dimensions.

Announced just moments ago during the Xbox 360 E3 press conference, Microsoft is set to bring live television to millions of Xbox 360 owners around the world.

While the details are scarce, and the overall price-point and actual series availability has yet to be announced, Microsoft has revealed that ABC’s Castle will be amongst the shows available when the service eventually launches.



Proving that they’re attempting to establish a broadcasting medium that has long been hoped for, Microsoft is foregoing any typical broadcast providing and instead is working directly with the content providers to make their shows available during live broadcast.

With the announcement that Xbox 360 around the world will have certain series available to them (according to regional availability), this is the first sign that the landscape is changing – and hopefully Internet television availability will be as widely available ...

Halo 4? Halo: Combat Evolved ... Anniversary? Wait ... Halo 4?! Allegedly, these titles (and more) were revealed by Microsoft itself, hours ahead of its 10AM (PT) press conference, on the company's E3 community site. NowGamer supposedly spotted the posting, which has since been removed by Microsoft, but not before a mess of details were loosed. Among them: news that 'Halo 4 is on the way.'



A scene from the end of Halo 3 prefaces the news, which also teases 'but that's not all.' As we reported back in February, a Halo: Combat Evolved 'remaster' is also apparently in the pipeline. The image says nothing beyond the game being 'remastered for a new generation,' and dubs it 'Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary' -- just in time for the ten year anniversary of Halo 1's original launch in November of 2001. We've reached out to Microsoft for comment, but we imagine we won't hear anything back until Microsoft's official presser in a few hours.

Microsoft has confirmed that some Xbox 360 consoles won't be happy with the upcoming, mandatory firmware update. The console manufacturer will replace consoles that become unable to read retail game discs -- once anti-piracy measures are enabled -- with a new Xbox 360 S with 250 GB hard drive.



'Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs,' a Microsoft statement provided to Eurogamer reads. 'This issue manifests itself a as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console.'



The firmware update implements new anti-piracy measures (along with a 1GB bump in disc storage capacity) that apparently don't play nice with certain DVD drives. Given that the Xbox 360 has had several revisions to its guts over the years, this is the reason why only certain models will be affected.



We've contacted Microsoft to find out what North American consumers should do if their console is incompatible with the update. European consumers have been told to go to Microsoft's general support page.

Xbox 360 dashboard updates aren't quite the big event they used to be. The first details on the upcoming spring update have surfaced and it will not add the sort of major features we've seen in past updates. It will, however, be out before the end of the month and adds what's sure to be a useful new payment method for some users.

An alleged Microsoft employee has forwarded two images to Joystiq detailing the update's features, only one of which will be noticeable to users. Support for the new disc format (referred to as XGD3) that's been beta tested over the last month will be one of the two major features. The image confirms what the format reportedly adds: additional storage space and new safeguards against piracy. The new format will begin being used 'in future game titles releasing later in 2011.' The update will also allow users to use PayPal as a payment method on the Xbox Live Marketplace while also expanding PayPal 'to new international markets.'


These changes will be pushed out in six waves between May 19 and May 30. The reason for this method is 'to ensure a high quality deployment.' Previous updates were pushed out to all users at the same time.
