Xbox Live experiencing service outages, including Black Ops and Reach
Xbox Live experiencing service outages, including Black Ops and Reach: "
If you've been having issues doing stuff on Xbox Live, you're not alone. Well, you are alone, because you can't connect to your online friends, but other people are having problems too.
Since last night, Xbox Live has been having various service outages, reported on its status page. Last night, it was Netflix; today, the site reports issues with creating, managing, and recovering accounts, and with creating, maintaining, or joining matches in Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo Reach.
We're checking with Microsoft to determine the cause of these outages, and if possible the expected duration. Did the pizza guy trip over a cord, or was it something more serious? Like, maybe some pizza also got into one of the server's vents.

Halo: Primordium, the second novel in the Halo Forerunner Saga, will be available in book and audio editions on January 3, 2012. Award-winning science fiction author Greg Bear returns to the writer's chair and continues the story he began in Cryptum.
Bear will also be present at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend in the back-to-back Halo panels, 'Writing in Videogames: In-Game, Novels, Comics, and Other Franchise-Building Offshoots' (Room 32AB), and 'Halo Universe' (Room 6BCF), at 10AM and 11:30AM, respectively. At 2PM, he'll be doing signings at booth #2707 with Frank O'Connor, Karen Traviss and Kevin Grace, so bring your cat helmets.

In a rather shocking turn of events, Microsoft has came out and admitted that the direction the Halo franchise has taken since Halo 3 was 'lost' and that with Halo 4 they plan to bring a much better take on Master Chief that can bring in new fans while keeping the old ones happy. They even compare the green, armoured 7 footer to John Wayne.

We're not 100% sure what Microsoft Game Studios head Phil Spencer is trying to say in this quote from E3, but as far as we can tell, he's just happy that Halo 4 is returning the player to Master Chief's head. He says he wants to make sure that the new game 'lives up to what I think gamers fell in love with,' and for him, that means being the Chief again.
Spencer says Halo Reach 'made more sense to you if you were a Halo fan. If you were new to Xbox 360, 360 is where you started playing on Xbox, you understood what Halo 3 was. ODST and Reach, maybe you weren't as centered.' So, newcomers want -- and expect -- to play as the Chief, whereas fans of the franchise were fine with something new.
At any rate, Spencer's just trying to make it clear that Master Chief is coming back, in both the anniversary remake of Combat Evolved, and Halo 4 next year. Why couldn't you just say that, Phil?

Yesterday's Bungie Day festivities are over, and with that, Bungie is essentially done with Halo. After playing Halo: Reach all day and rewarding players with steaks, Bungie has offered up some final thoughts today on the Halo series, which it is leaving behind to work on a new franchise for Activision.
'Thank you for making our 20th Anniversary, and this year's Bungie Day, kick so much ass,' the post reads. 'As we prepare to become fans of the universe our studio began creating more than ten years ago, it's nice to know that we'll be counted among such esteemed company. Some might consider the upcoming transition a bittersweet occasion punctuated by a sense of loss and sadness. We feel otherwise. Halo is in great hands... yours.'
Development of the Halo franchise has shifted from Bungie to 343 Industries. Halo 4 was announced at E3 last month as the start of a new trilogy. 343i is also bringing out Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary on November 15.
