‘Game of Thrones’ Helmer In Talks To Direct ‘Thor 2′

‘Game of Thrones’ Helmer In Talks To Direct ‘Thor 2′: "
Thor 2 to be directed by Game of Thrones Director

Marvel Studios has already settled on an official release date and commissioned a screenwriter for Thor 2. However, the comic book movie sequel is currently without a director, since Kenneth Branagh decided to pass on calling the shots on the mighty Asgardian’s next solo venture.
Word has been circulating recently about Marvel being on the prowl to find another director for the Thor followup, sooner rather than later – and now, a viable candidate has emerged.
Variety is reporting that Brian Kirk has begun early negotiations with the studio to direct Thor 2. The film will mark Chris Hemsworth’s third onscreen appearance as the famous hammer-wielding warrior, following his appearance in next year’s superhero team-up extravaganza, The Avengers.
While Kirk’s filmography only includes one relatively obscure, feature-length theatrical ...

‘Thor 2′: Chris Hemsworth sad to see Kenneth Branagh go

‘Thor 2′: Chris Hemsworth sad to see Kenneth Branagh go: "

Chris Hemsworth in "Thor." (Zade Rosenthal/Marvel Studios)

“Thor” director Kenneth Branagh is walking away from Asgard, and no one is sadder than star Chris Hemsworth.

“I’m really disappointed,” Hemsworth said of Branagh’s decision to pass on “Thor 2,” which is aiming for a July 2013 release and may begin filming next May. “Ken built that character, and everything I know about the Thor world I learned while shoulder-to-shoulder with Ken. I learned so much from him.”

By all reports, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige invited Branagh back to follow up his success of “Thor,” the May 6 release that has grossed $447 million in worldwide box office. The 50-year-old filmmaker seemed energized by the prospects of a sequel too, both in private and in public. In the end, though, the marathon devotion required for a major visual-effects epic and the urgency to get the script process underway were the factors that sent Branagh in a different direction. Instead of crossing the Rainbow Bridge again, Branagh will be busy as the returning star of the acclaimed British television series “Wallander” and with his ramping work with a theater group in his native Belfast.

Anthony Hopkins and Kenneth Branagh on the set of "Thor." (Zade Rosenthal / Marvel Studios)

Hemsworth, who visited Comic-Con International in San Diego this last weekend to promote “Snow White and the Huntsman,” said Marvel Studios will decide fairly soon on Branagh’s replacement. The 27-year-old actor has said the Oscar-nominated Branagh was initially intimidating and ultimately inspiring to work with, and that he has left a mark that will carry forward on the franchise.

“As long as he’s happy, that’s the thing,” said Hemsworth, who left San Diego to return to the New Mexico set of ”The Avengers.” “I learned so much from Ken while we built [the first film], so at least I had that time with someone like that. The start of anything creative is the most important period in a way. That’s when the most can go wrong, and Ken made sure we got it right.”

VOLSTAGG: The Voluminous

VOLSTAGG : The Voluminous: "
'Many there are who assume that I eat only to escape a nagging shrew of a wife. Nonsense! I eat only because I enjoy it!'

-- VOLSTAGG

Who is VOLSTAGG?

VOLSTAGG is a stern ally and friend of Thor and a jovial member of the fabled Warriors Three.

He is much older than other Asgardians, VOLSTAGG will often be the cause of more problems than the solution. He likes food and drink and is very boastful, but he remains a trusted and worthy comrade to his companions. VOLSTAGG has a large family and an unknown number of children with his wife, Gudrun.

VOLSTAGG's Family

VOLSTAGG was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #119 (August, 1965). In the beginning years VOLSTAGG was portrayed as a stumbling oaf. He is not taken from Norse mythology but an original creation, modeled on Shakespeare's Falstaff in character and name.

first appearance

Most of VOLSTAGG's adventures are with the Warrior's Three, which is composed of himself, Fandral and Hogun.

Encountering the New Mutants

VOLSTAGG and his family met the New Mutants. During the group's trip to Asgard, VOLSTAGG makes friends with Roberto DaCosta, aka Sunspot, challenging him to feats of strength, including arm-wrestling and the lifting of VOLSTAGG himself.

Ragnarok

Eventually, Loki brings about Ragnarok. VOLSTAGG and the Warriors Three escape to the home of the light elves, but his friends soon fall. His trials make him lose considerable weight, and he died along the other Asgardians as they made their last stand.

The dead Asgardians were reincarnated on Earth, they do not remember their old self. All the Warriors Three were in the forms of three soldiers in Africa. Thor later would remind them who they truly are.

Siege

Later, VOLSTAGG became a pawn that set the motion for the Siege of Asgard. He set-off to Chicago seeking adventures like those of Thor. He stops a robbery but causes a lot of damage. He is attacked by the U-Foes (who were operating under orders of Norman Osborn and Loki). The incident destroys Soldier Field in Chicago, killing many, due to VOLSTAGG deflecting the energy blasts using his sword.

VOLSTAGG throughout most of his comicbook existence maintained a constant look.

LIVE APPEARANCE

VOLSTAGG appears in the 2011 live-action film, Thor played by Ray Stevenson.

POWERS & ABILITIES

Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

VOLSTAGG possesses various superhuman attributes common amongs the Gods of Asgard.

Superhuman Strength: Like all Asgardians, VOLSTAGG is superhumanly strong.

Superhuman Stamina: Despite the fact that he is no longer in his physical prime, VOLSTAGG's stamina remains undiminished. His musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a human. He can physically exert himself for about 24 hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: Like all Asgardians, VOLSTAGG's bodily tissues have about 3 times the density of the bodily tissues of a human. This contributes, somewhat, to VOLSTAGG's superhuman strength and weight.

Superhuman Durability: VOLSTAGG's body is much harder and more resistant to damage than the body of a human being. VOLSTAGG can withstand great impact forces, falls from great heights, powerful energy blasts, and exposure to extremes in both temperature and pressures without sustaining injury.

Extended Longevity: VOLSTAGG, like all Asgardians, isn't immortal in the same sense as members of other god pantheons but he does age much slower than a human. He is also immune to all known Earthly diseases and infections.

Regenerative Healing Factor: If VOLSTAGG is injured, his Asgardian metabolism enables him to repair damages tissue much faster and much more extensively than a human being.

AbilitiesVOLSTAGG is a good hand to hand combatant and horseman. He IS proficient in using a sword or quarterstaff in battle. Additionally, he has mastered the art of using his great size to best advantage on the field of battle.

FANDRAL: The Dashing

FANDRAL : The Dashing: "
'Deeply and hungrily, I drank of her eyes...in that instant I knew 'twas destined for this fair maid to enthrall my heart...and be my wife!'

--FANDRAL

Who is FANDRAL?

FANDRAL is a Marvel Comics character, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #119.

first appearance

He is a member of Asgard's celebrated heroes, the fabled Warriors Three. FANDRAL, Hogun and Volstagg are longtime friends who work together as a team.

The Warriors Three with Thor

Their first known mission together took place at an unknown time in the past when they joined the quest by sea led by the prince of Asgard, Thor, to discover the reason why a crack had appeared in the Odinsword of Asgard. The Warriors Three aided Thor in quelling a mutiny. Since then Hogun, FANDRAL, and Volstagg have been Thor's friends, allies, and companions, and have aided him in numerous exploits.

FANDRAL is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. FANDRAL considers himself the consummate ladies' man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. Despite these flaws, he possesses an excessively noble spirit and will do the right thing without thought to his personal safety or prosperity.

FANDRAL and his comrades in Warrior's Three had several adventures in Midgard, which have amusing results. Here's a sample:

FANDRAL has many adventures, but these are not very prominent in the whole Marvel Universe. FANDRAL mainly has stayed with his look, throughout most of his comicbook existence, with minor tweaks here and there.

Live Appearance

Joshua Dallas plays FANDRAL:Like in the comicbook, FANDRAL is a member of the Warriors Three, characterized as an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. Dallas said he believed that FANDRAL 'would like to think of himself a philanderer. He would like to think of himself, I was saying, as the R. Kelly of Asgard. He’s a lover, not a fighter'. Dallas also mentioned that Errol Flynn was an inspiration for the character stating, 'He was a big inspiration for the character and for me. I watched a lot of his movies and kind of got that into my bones. I tried to bring out that little bit of Flynn-ness in it. Flynn had a lot of that boyish charm that Fandril's got....

POWERS & ABILITIES

Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

As an Asgardian, FANDRAL has several superhuman attributes.

Superhuman reflexes

Superhuman agility: FANDRAL is one of the most agile warriors in Asgard, able to jump to great heights and is an able climber. He is able to evade multiple attacks from an army of opponents in the midst of battle.

Superhuman Stamina: FANDRAL's advanced musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins than the musculature of a human. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair him, which is about average for an Asgardian.

Extended Longevity: Like all other Asgardians, FANDRAL ages at an extremely slow rate compared to humans.

AbilitiesFANDRAL is an expert swordsman, with centuries of experience in hand-to-hand combat. FANDRAL is also exceptionally handsome and charming, giving him a great deal of success in dealing with women.

Thor Thoughts: Must There Be A Donald Blake?

Thor Thoughts: Must There Be A Donald Blake?: "

Over in Tim Callahan’s When Words Collide column at CBR, Walt Simonson explains why he wrote Donald Blake out of his Thor run so quickly:

My own feeling about that is that once we knew who Donald Blake was, and once Thor knew who he was, and once, presumably, Odin had revealed this secret, Thor’s time as a mortal should have been over. He’d learned his lesson. He knew what Odin had wanted him to know. I felt that, from that point on, Donald Blake was more or less a ball and chain around Thor’s leg. I mean, it could be done well, it was done well, but it didn’t make a lot of sense to me that Donald Blake was kept in the picture, once we knew what he was actually about.

There’s more to it – Go and read the whole piece, which is only the start of a chat with Simonson that continues next week – but it makes me wonder what purpose Donald Blake serves these days. Unless I’m entirely misremembering my Thor continuity – always possible – he was absent from the book from Simonson’s run all the way through JMS’ revival, right*? Beyond being a McGuffin to bring the character back, does Blake actually serve any purpose now – and if he does, what is that purpose? Isn’t Thor the one superhero – well, one of two, besides Captain America – who not only doesn’t need a secret identity, but doesn’t really gain anything by having one?

(* Yes, I know that Eric Masterson was, for all intents and purposes, Donald Blake 2.0 for awhile there, but still.)

Thor Easter Egg Scene: Kenneth Branagh Talks

Thor Easter Egg Scene: Kenneth Branagh Talks: "
Thor Easter Egg Scene: Kenneth Branagh Talks

The might and sculpted pecs of Thor proved enough to top the box-office this past weekend with a $66 million box-office win.

With it, the home-stretch to The Avengers in 2012 has officially gotten underway. It's a sentiment that's certainly proven true if you've managed to catch the film and its plethora of references to Marvel continuity. However, if you were hardcore enough and had the patience to sit through the end credits, then in true Marvel tradition, you were treated to an Easter Egg which shed a new light on the film. Specifically, in the case of Thor's Easter Egg, we have what perhaps may be the most critical game-changer, for its given film.

Director Kenneth Branagh discussed this key scene in an interview with Empire before the weekend. He's a bit guarded, despite the fact that he does get a bit spoiler-happy. However, if you've caught the scene, then you'll be able to read between the lines about what he's implying.

Caution: Spoiler Talk Ahead!

As Branagh tells Empire, Thor's brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is serving as a much more critical component to Marvel's "movie-verse" than one might have thought. The direction where The Avengers films are headed now seem to depend on Loki's motivations:

"We thought that this film would very much be an origin story where, thank God, you and other people feel as though there are interesting questions to ask about Loki.

Is he a good man gone to the bad? Has he gone to the bad? Does he still love Thor? Does he hate Thor? Does he still love Asgard? Does he want to be ruler of Asgard? Does he want to be ruler of Earth? Does he want to be ruler of the rest of the nine realms? So, how does he do that?"

You can probably catch the Easter Egg on some poorly-shot YouTube posts, which will surely be taken down real soon. But, the revelation that Loki survived the epic denouement of the film would end up taking a backseat to the idea that he's infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. by manipulating Stellan Skarsgard's Professor Selvig. (Was he controlled by Loki the whole time?)

Then, it hits you: Sam Jackson's Nick Fury opens up what appears to be a nuclear football of some kind. However, inside it, is Marvel's famed Cosmic Cube: A possible source of unlimited power, which has the ability to alter reality itself.

As Branagh further explains:

"When he (Loki) falls into that wormhole, a rip in the fabric of space at the end of our picture, and then shows up in an unknown location, possibly with the idea of a new and cunning plan, I think think it's a interesting way to indicate how he might be involved in another story from another part of the Marvel Universe."

Translation: "We just set up the plot for The Avengers in a pretty clear way."

Thus far, the speculation about the Cosmic Cube that hit the Internet a few months back has proven accurate. So, in all likelihood, the other half of that story, where Loki takes the device and summons Marvel's iconic alien shape-shifting baddies, the Skrulls is also looking to be the likely inciting incident for Marvel's mega superhero team-up film.

Did you catch Thor over the weekend? Has it whetted your appetite for The Avengers?

Beginner's Guide To Mjolnir & The Destroyer

Beginner's Guide To Mjolnir & The Destroyer: "
Go on. Try and lift it.
Go on. Try and lift it.

“Mee-ol-near.”

Say that fast and you’ll be saying “Mjolnir,” right. Although, I’ve
heard it pronounced with both the “l” and the “j” silent. Whatever you maniacs call it, Mjolnir’s a powerful hammer; a
weapon that strikes like it’s bringing all the heavens right down on Thor’s
foes. The new movie doesn’t touch upon its origins, nor the full breadth of its
abilities, but those details could fill a whole story of their own.

Like much of Marvel’s Asgardian mythos, the creation of Mjolnir
draws from the original Norse mythology with a degree of creative license.

Believe it or not, one of Loki’s mischievous schemes led to the hammer's forging. One night, the trickster god cut off Thor’s girlfriend Sif’s hair in a prank with about the same maturity as spraying shaving cream into
her hand and tickling her nose (try that one out, if you haven’t already.)
Needless to say, Thor was quite angry at his annoying little brother and, to
hastily make amends, Loki sought out some dwarf blacksmiths, the Sons of Ivaldi,
to make Sif some new hair. Not a whig, mind you - - new hair. These dwarves proved all too eager to please the
gods, though, and they forged a number of weapons for Loki to bring back to
Asgard in addition to his follicular purchase order. As you might’ve surmised,
Mjolnir, a hammer fashioned from the enchanted Uru metal, was among the
weapons.

Oh, and Wonder Woman was worthy of wielding it in one story, too.
Oh, and Wonder Woman was worthy of wielding it in one story, too.

In another, more sensible, version of continuity, Odin directly commissions
these dwarves to make Mjolnir by forging the hammer in the heart of a star.
Which story holds in continuity, of course, depends on who’s currently writing THOR. Regardless of the details of its
creation, Mjolnir is always similar to King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, for how its magic only allows certain individuals to wield it. An
inscription on its side reads, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy,
shall possess the power of Thor” and you better believe it wasn’t written idly.
If a person isn’t
as virtuous or brave as Mjolnir requires, they simply can’t lift the thing. Not an centimeter. While Thor, himself, has become unworthy at times, other men like Captain
America
, Eric Masterson, Dargo Ktor and the alien Beta Ray Bill have prove fit enough for hammer time.

What powers does Mjolnir grant those worthy to wield it? Like many
items borne of myths, its exact abilities are broadly and vaguely defined.
It
might be more to the point to ask what Mjolnir cannot do. In addition to
allowing control of thunder, lightning and most all aspects of weather, it can level mountains with its blunt force and create force-fields, illusions and
portals that traverse space and time. In
short, it has about as many as abilities as Superman did, pre-Crisis.

 Built Ford tough.
Built Ford tough.

THE DESTROYER

It might look and walk like a man, but the Destroyer is actually a
weapon in much the same fashion that Mjolnir is. This hollow war armor was forged
by All-Father Odin (instead of dwarfs, wouldn’t you know) for a millenia-in-the-making battle against the sublimely-malevolent alien giants, the Celestials. Requiring either
a host to wear it or a dose of life-force to get it running, the Destroyer was
appropriated several times by Loki over the years of its dormancy for some schemes
against Thor. When the Celestials finally arrived, Odin donned it to fend off
their invasion with a high-stakes bid that put all of the Aesir through another
cycle of death and rebirth. With its original purpose fulfilled, the Destroyer's become something like a Soviet nuke as various villainous factions have stolen it over the years, such as the High Evolutionary, the Dark Gods,
the Frost Giants and even the Hulk’s villainous doppleganger, the Maestro.

While the Destroyer’s designed to be worn, it can be remote controlled
from afar - - as both Loki and Odin did in the movie - - and it also has enough
base, primal intelligence to operate on its own for short periods.
As for
abilities, it can fly at supersonic speeds, it possesses unfathomable invulnerability,
it can fire all wavelengths of energy and, most spectacularly, it can blast a highly-destructive
disintegration beam from its “face.” And here's a fact to keep its threat in perspective: while Thor makes quick work of the Destroyer once he gets his hammer back in the movie, this thing was once able to split the seemingly-indestructible hammer in half in the comics!

Reason For Late THOR US Release Revealed; International Box Office Hits $100 Million!

Reason For Late THOR US Release Revealed; International Box Office Hits $100 Million!: "I know some of you have been left feeling angry and confused over the decision to not release Thor in the US and Canada until weeks after countries like Australia and the UK. Well, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we can now shed some light on why exactly that decision was made. Here are some of the relevent excerpts from their report:

'The people who ask that question are fanboys who are mad because they want to see it first,' noted Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at Monday's U.S. Thor premiere. 'I don't blame them.'

The decision rested with Marvel's distribution partner, Paramount. And when we pressed the studio's Rob Moore, he said only, 'It's a global market now.' Meaning that these days, international audiences are considered equally or more important when planning releases of Hollywood movies.

Plus, the peculiarities of this year's calendar also came into play.

Paramount took advantage of"

What Do the Critics Have to Say About Thor?

What Do the Critics Have to Say About Thor?: "
Thor

Of all of Marvel’s film projects, Thor has stood out as the wildcard. Iron Man grounded itself very firmly in reality (with a dash of science fiction, of course), The Hulk was more a psychodrama than a comic book movie, and Captain America is surrounded by something we can all dig — killing Nazis. Thor, on the other hand, represents the more Jack Kirby side of the Marvel universe; the powerful cosmic forces that exist unbeknownst to the general Earth public. It would’ve been easy to go full cheese mode for this one (hi, Green Lantern), but it looks like director Kenneth Branagh centered the film around the very Shakespearean politics of the god of thunder and his relatives instead. And, according to its 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its Australian premiere, it looks like it worked. You’re up, Cap.

THOR : The God of Thunder featurette

THOR : The God of Thunder featurette: "“At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.” --Psalm 104:7

With an upcoming movie its good to know your CBM Character - THOR. This feature answers the questions - Who he is? What are his abilities? What are the changes he underwent? Who has portrayed him in Comic Book Movies?

Who is THOR?

THOR is the Asgardian god of thunder who wields a mythical uru hammer, the mighty Mjolnir. He was sent to midgard (earth) by his father, Odin, to learn humility. In his time on midgard, he became one of its greatest hero, fighting in the name of Odin and of Asgard.

THOR is a fictional superhero who first appeared in Marvel Comics Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962). He was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby.Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character is based on the THOR of Norse mythology.

What are his powers and abilities?

Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Superhuman Strength: Being the son of Odin and the elder goddess Gaea, THOR is physically the strongest of the Norse gods and one of the most powerful beings in the Universe.

Superhuman Stamina: THOR's advanced musculature is considerably more efficient than that of a human and most other Asgardians. As a result, his muscles produce practically no fatigue toxins during physical activity compared to those of humans and most other members of his race. He possesses practically inexhaustible stamina. He can exert himself at peak capacity for countless months on end at the very least without tiring at all.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: THOR's skin, muscle, and bone tissues have several times the density of the same tissue in the body of a human being, contributing to his superhuman weight.

Self Sustenance: He is capable of surviving in the vacuum of space unaided and does not need air, food, water, or sleep.

Superhuman Longevity: THOR, like all other Asgardians, isn't immortal. THOR ages at a pace far, far slower than a human being as he is countless eons old; mortals' life spans are comparable to nothing more than a blink of his immortal eyes.

Superhuman Durability: The tissues of THOR's body are considerably harder and much more resistant to injury than those of humans. THOR possesses tremendous durability and is practically invulnerable.

Superhuman Speed: THOR's superhumanly strong legs allow him to run and move at superhuman speeds far greater than the finest human athlete. He is so fast, he is capable of moving at speeds faster than the human eyes can see.

Superhuman Agility: THOR's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Reflexes: THOR's reflexes are similarly greatly enhanced and are much more superior to the reflexes of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Senses: THOR possesses incredible superhuman senses, as he is able to effortlessly see objects as far out as the edge of the Solar System, and hear cries from as far as the other side of the planet.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his astounding resistance to injury, it is possible to injure THOR. In the rare instances that he is injured, his body is capable of repairing damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than the body of a human being and almost all other Asgardians.

Master Combatant: THOR is a superbly skilled warrior trained in the arts of war with over countless years of combat experience. He is one of the most skilled fighters to ever walk the planet.

Master Tactician: For over thousands and thousands of years he has lead Asgard into battle against overwhelming forces with great leadership and employed strategies and tactics from every culture, including forgotten ones.

What are the changes he underwent?

1. First appearance

Since his first appearance Journey into Mystery #83. This costume designed by Jack Kirby is still the main driving force on THOR's look. Of course the costume has change throughout the decades, but most of the changes derived its look from this classic outfit. Elements of his costume are the winged helmet, the red cape, the metal discs on his upper tunic, and the strapped boots, which pretty much screams Superhero Viking. He has worn this costume since his debut in the 60s and throughout the 80s.

2. Battle armor

In THOR #378 (April 1987), THOR and Tony Stark designed a battle armor that will help hold THOR together after a curse placed on him by Hela made his bones as brittle as glass and unable to heal if damaged. THOR already broke his left arm so he has an armored cast around it. THOR also has to wear a mask and sport beard to cover the scars he has incurred on his face.

3. 1000 years younger

THOR #401 (March 1989), We have a story set in the past where a younger THOR accepts a wager from Loki to travel to Midgard, and join a Viking expedition to the new world. He will not have his power and will be unable to use Mjolnir. If he fails, he will be exiled to Midgard forever and give up all claim to the throne. He wores a more armored costume of his classic look, and he lost the red cape and gained a sword to replace his absent hammer.

4. Back to the Classics

At the tail end of the 80s and in the early days of the 90s THOR is back wearing his classic costume. Though there are times it seems that his upper costume loses the covering on his sides.

Enter the 90s

If you have read my previous articles about characters and their costumes during the 90s then you won't be surprised as much on the looks that THOR underwent.

5. Godpack

It was during the mid 90s THOR was running around with beings of his peer, the Godpack, and as always when you are among peers there will be peer pressure and THOR has to find a way to fit in, and he got this costume. Metal pants, spiked kneepads, huge shoulder pads, the silver discs are now replaced by yellow octagons and a helmet with a widow's peak. (Goodtimes) This costume debuted in THOR 475, June 1994

6. Topless

Maybe realizing the ridiculousness of his previous costume, he just said to hell with it I'll just show my abs. So most of 96 he was running around shirtless.

7. DC Crossover Costume

(THOR then decided…oooh I have a long hair, all I need are some leather straps and chains and I'm set to start my metal band. I hope Logan is good for drums. ) This costume was a little hiccup in THOR's history. One minute it was there and then it was gone. It did get some playtime during the company wide crossover with DC, where THOR fought Captain Marvel. This costume first appeared in the cover of THOR 502 (September 1996).

8. Counter Earth

In a fight with Onslaught most of the heroes were dead (don't panic its not dead dead but comic dead), what actually happened is that most of these heroes where trasported to a 'counter earth' (see you can breathe well now, they are ok). The costume still has that classic look to it but now it has some added metallic studs all over the place. He seems like a Superher Skyscraper.

9. Heroes Reborn

The end of 1996 we have the aftermath of the battle with Onslaught. And we see the heroes returning with a new look, which did not exclude THOR. We now have THOR sporting yellow dots all over his costume. (I imagine a lot of comic book out there with smiley faces drawn on those yellow circles.)

10. Lord of Asgard

In 2001 THOR became the King of Asgard, after the death of Odin. He is seen with a more regal and mature look, which is appropriate for the position he was holding at that time. He once again sports a full beard.

11. Modern

Fast forward to 2009. Odin is back as King of Asgard, and we see THOR back in Midgard. He now brings with him and more sensible armored design to his classic costume which still retains his iconic silhoutte.

THOR in Live Media

1. THOR appeared in the live action television film The Incredible Hulk Returns (1988). THOR was played by Eric Allan Kramer. In this version THOR was a spirit that cannot be admitted into Asgard until he has proved himself worthy. In this movie THOR is portrayed as a fun-loving warrior who is very happy drinking beer, fighting with men, and carousing with women.

2. THOR will then next in his own Marvel Movie, out in May 2012. He will be played by Actor Chris Hemsworth. He will also be a part of the AVENGERS movie which will be released a year after.
