Today in Gaming - 5/2/11: Sony Online Entertainment User Info Stolen: "

The bad news continues to pile up for Sony. Like many others, I believed the company when last week it stated that Sony Online Entertainment customers' data was safe after its servers were attacked. Today, after Station.com was taken offline, word has been released stating this is not the case and even more people are now at greater risk for identity theft or fraud. It's mind-boggling that this could happen but even more surprising is how long it took for word to get out. When you consider how upset many people (including Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal and numerous Attorney Generals) were with Sony for taking so long to inform the public of the PSN breach, I can't even begin to imagine what the reaction will be as news spreads about SOE. It might not impact nearly as many individuals as PSN, but at least we learned about that in a more timely fashion. Sony continues to say PSN users' credit card numbers are safe, but in light of it being wrong about SOE customer info it's easy to let some doubt creep in about the accuracy of such an assertion. It might be completely right -- but we thought it was correct about SOE, too.
