Evil Dead Remake: New Characters, New Story, & Bruce Campbell Cameo

Evil Dead Remake: New Characters, New Story, & Bruce Campbell Cameo: "
Bruce Campbell Only Going to Cameo in Evil Dead Remake
The Evil Dead series is, somewhat oxymoronically, one of the most popular cult horror series of all time. In fact, there are so many different DVD editions at this point, one can barely contain them on his or her shelf.
Which is why fans of the series are a little reticent to be overjoyed about the prospect of a remake. Recently, the director attached to the project – Fede Alvarez, whose filmography starts and stops at a CGI-heavy short film called Panic Attack – recently talked to the Spanish magazine El Pais about all things Evil Dead.
We’ve Google-translated the most interesting sections below, for your reading pleasure.
On the possibility of offending the fans of the original films:
“As fans of the original ...

Evil Dead 4 Finally Gearing Up for Production?

Evil Dead 4 Finally Gearing Up for Production?: "

You can probably file this one under 'unlikely rumour' for the time being, but there could also be a grain of truth underneath it all. We've been hearing talk about a new Evil Dead film for years now, with reports alternating between the long-awaited Evil Dead 4 and a somewhat less desirable remake of the original Evil Dead. Once Sam Raimi officially parted ways with the Spider-Man franchise, his schedule was obviously a lot more open, and coming off the smaller horror flick Drag Me to Hell, it seemed like he might be in the right frame of mind to return to Ash and his battle against the Deadites. However, Raimi then signed on to direct Oz: The Great and Powerful for Disney instead. Now this week we've got reports that long-time Raimi collaborator is heading to Detroit to begin work on a new Evil Dead flick. Could Oz be helping to pay for the long-awaited sequel?

According to Dread Central, a reliable source has informed them that Raimi's editor Bob Murawski is starting to get the ball rolling on the project, which will be a 'small indie thing like the first two.' But why would an editor be the first person on the scene? Murawski also has a few producer credits so perhaps he is out there scouting locations, although something still doesn't add up.

Bruce Campbell, who recently joined Twitter also chimed in with some information, in response to someone else's inquiry:

'Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.'

So according to Campbell it's actually the remake that is going into production, not a sequel. Then again, Campbell has been plugging the remake for years so who knows if anything has actually changed here. What do you think? Is Sam Raimi about to return to the Evil Dead franchise? Would you be disappointed if it is indeed a remake and not a sequel?"

The Awesomeness that is Army of Darkness Defense

The Awesomeness that is Army of Darkness Defense: "

You can’t possibly question it. Army of Darkness was one of my favorite cult classics. So when we discovered that Army of Darkness Defense was available on FREE TO DOWNLOAD for a limited time (as of this writing it still is!), there was no question about it: It was my turn to defend the Necronomicon.

You star as Bruce Campbell’s most memorable B film character — the time traveling Ash — department store salesman brought back to a medieval age to help the humans defend their castle against the evil Deadite constructs. The Army of Darkness franchise is very much alive making its first crossover in Marvel Comics. This time, it’s Backflip Studio’s turn to churn out a game.

Army of Darkness Defense is a side scrolling defense game. The objective is simple: defend the Necronomicon (a powerful book that can help bring back Ash to the present time) from the Deadites that push their way forward into the castle gates. You play Ash and automatically fire your boom stick when near an enemy. At melee range you use your fists (upgradable to the chainsaw) to push back enemies. You also have the ability to summon help from the castle’s guards through the blacksmith and the power to harness magical and support abilities such as the Wrong Book and the Deathcoaster.

The in game references in Army of Darkness are spot on. Backflip Studios were huge fans, to be sure. This is the scene of the Wrong Book.
As you progress through wave after wave (50 in total), you gain the ability to upgrade and unlock more units. The strategy is deeply involving albeit repetitive after about halfway into the game but considering that the game is free with heartfelt production value, you will forgive some of the repetitiveness.
Backflip Studios did an amazing job with the soundtrack and voice overs, putting in all of the famous quotes (“This is my BOOMSTICK!”) from Ash and the Deadites.
Bottomline

Army of Darkness Defense is 100% worth it. Not just because the game is well-made but simply because it’s also free to download from the iTunes Store. You can’t get a better deal than this!

The “Evil Dead” franchise is being resurrected (again), this time in mobile gaming form. A new iPad and iPhone app lets users maneuver Ash, Bruce Campbell‘s character in Sam Raimi‘s famous cult horror movies, as he wields boomsticks, axes and chain saws to take out 30 levels of Deadites.

The 3-D shooter game was created by Trigger Apps and Ghost House Pictures, Raimi and Robert Tapert‘s production company.

“Sam, Bruce and I have always been interested in finding ways to bring our 1980s ‘Evil Dead’ into the digital age,” said Tapert, who produced the “Evil Dead” films.

The game, which features the film’s original score, follows the movie’s plot in the first half of the game, then introduces new characters and story line in the second half. Tapert said the app aimed to “stay true to the feel” of the low-budget classic.
