‘Superman: Man of Steel’ Official Plot Synopsis Hints at a Familiar Story

‘Superman: Man of Steel’ Official Plot Synopsis Hints at a Familiar Story:
Superman Man of Steel Official Plot Synopsis

The last few weeks have been filled with scores of unofficial sneak peeks at high-profile comic book films – which have been filming in very public locales. The Dark Knight Rises teased us with set-photos of a new bat-vehicle and The Avengers gave us a look at Captain America’s modern costume.
ComicBookMovie was the first to post the synopsis – which was originally attached to a casting call looking for “loggers” and “commercial fishermen.”
Fans that are hoping for an exhaustive explanation of why Michael Shannon’s Zoddecides to visit Earth, or what exactly we can expect from Antje Traue’s villainess Faora, will have to wait – since the Man of Steel plot synopsis is… just a synopsis.
As we’ve previously warned, pre-release details can contain MILD SPOILERS for Superman: Man of Steel. If you are attempting to avoid spoilers altogether, please be advised to turn away now – you have been WARNED.
Check out the official Superman: Man of Steel plot synopsis below:
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”
As mentioned, the plot synopsis is light on details, it doesn’t even mention Zod or Lois Lane (played by Amy Adams), and instead zeroes in on Superman’s place as a cultural icon – and less on specifics about the actual story. However, as previously reported, it sounds as though Superman’s origins will factor heavily into the Man of Steel plot.
Welling as Superman in the Smallville Series Finale
That said, for anyone who enjoyed watching Smallville‘s Clark Kent learn to embrace his destiny as Earth’s super-friend, the Man of Steel plot may look strangely familiar. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take Henry Cavill’s Superman ten movies (like the ten seasons of Smallville) to lace-up his super suit. Considering the recently released Superman image of Cavillsporting the iconic “S” and red, blue, and yellow suit – it looks like Snyder’s film may not take quite as long a route into the sky.

First Image of Henry Cavill as Superman in ‘Man of Steel’

First Image of Henry Cavill as Superman in ‘Man of Steel’: "

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the first image of Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s reboot film, Man of Steel. This comes on the heels of images of Cavill sporting “Clark Kent hair” and describing how it felt to wear the Superman suit.
But will fans embrace this version of Superman? Or will they nitpick the suit, the look of the actor, and the overall tone of Snyder’s film to death, based on this one image?
In my experience working on the Interweb, it will most likely be the latter. But I digress.

Snyder’s film will explore Clark Kent’s early days and his transition into becoming the world’s greatest superhero. While the script by and story from David S. Goyer and Chris Nolan have been kept secret, rumor ...

UPDATED — IT'S CONFIRMED: Superman Gets a Villainess in Man of Steel!

UPDATED — IT'S CONFIRMED: Superman Gets a Villainess in Man of Steel!: "Says Deadline, 'Since Michael Shannon is playing General Zod, might Traue be playing his accomplice, Ursa, who appeared in the first two Superman films? Traue starred with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid in Pandorum, and she is currently in Sweden shooting the Peter Flinth-directed Nobels Testament.'

UPDATE FROM VARIETY:

Traue is confirmed for Man of Steel, with Variety also noting that she will be portraying the villainous Faora. Says the trade publication, 'There are multiple Faoras in the Superman universe, so it remains unclear which one Traue has been tapped to play. The first Faora, Faora Hu-Ul, was introduced in Action Comics #471 as a beautiful Kryptonian woman with an intense unexplained hatred for all men. She was an expert at the Kryptonian martial art of Horo-Kanu, which utilizes pressure points on the Kryptonian body and made her a dangerous foe for Superman to fight in hand-to-hand combat. In fact, he was forced"

Is ‘Man of Steel’ Being Influenced By ‘Superman: Birthright’?

Is ‘Man of Steel’ Being Influenced By ‘Superman: Birthright’?: "
Superman-reboot-movie-synopsis

Now that many of the central roles in Man of Steel have been filled, there’s been renewed interest in the film’s potential supporting players, as well as the actual plot of Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. The film will touch on the superhero’s origins to some degree, but whether or not it will be a full-blown origin story is not yet clear.

The most recent rumored Man of Steel synopsis suggested the film will begin with Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) as “a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination” and that “when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack.” Vague, to be sure, but certainly feasible.

Now Bleeding Cool has picked up the following Man of Steel plot description from The Baseline Studio System:

A young reporter named ...

More Superman ‘Man of Steel’ Characters Revealed?

More Superman ‘Man of Steel’ Characters Revealed?: "
Superman: Man of Steel Kryptonian Villain Faora

The decision to feature General Zod as the villain in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot Man of Steel is the latest development to divide fans over the direction of the film. Coupled with the news that Superman’s origin story will be revisited to some degree, many have declared that Snyder should be more concerned with breaking new ground, rather than revisiting elements we’ve already seen explored in previous cinematic outings.

I was also hoping for a villain we’d never seen on screen before, but I really don’t think we have to worry about Superman: Man of Steel resembling past Superman adaptations – or Snyder utilizing the character of Zod the same way that Richard Donner did. Regardless, Snyder once dismissed Zod’s involvement as nothing more than hearsay – so does the Kryptonian outlaw’s ...

If “Man of Steel” is THIS Entertaining . . .

If “Man of Steel” is THIS Entertaining . . .: "
Entertainment Weekly offered a look at Michael Shannon discussing General Zod at the RiverRun International Film Festival.

Notable in the clip, apart from Shannon’s accent, is the notion that Shannon himself found the prospect of him being in a Superman film a bit absurd. He also, without a lot of elaboration, points out that Superman itself is a hard role for an actor, and also alludes to the fact that “Superman: The Movie” features a “great performance” from Christopher Reeve.

Shannon also confirms that he’s actually seen the first two Superman films, citing Terence Stamp as the earlier Zod without prompting. That should potentially mollify quarters that always despair when an actor claims not to have read/watched/studied related materials.

I found the actor to be interesting and genuine in this bit. I find myself increasingly more interested in the film. You?

Michael Shannon Talks General Zod in Superman Man of Steel

It’s only been three days since Warner Bros. announced the casting of Michael Shannon as iconic General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman film, Man of Steel and discussion about the actor, as well as the inclusion of Zod as an antagonist, has yet to simmer down.

On Sunday night, Shannon was honored with the 2011 Emerging Master Award at the RiverRun International Film Festival. While the actor graciously discussed acting in general, he also took the opportunity to address how he landed the role of Zod -- as well as his thoughts on the upcoming Man of Steel reimagining.
