Cawaii Koohi

And so with the gracious invitation from Dan, we went to the very anticipated (by Dan) Maid Cafe at Funan IT Mall.

Cawaii Koohi is located on the 5th floor just beside the escalator. A very easy to find location.

We had initially thought the place starts at 2pm but when we reached, we were told to wait till 3pm. Since we had nothing better to do and the cafe doesn't serve any main course, we just decided to grab lunch. Cawaii Koohi is solely a beverage, dessert and pastry cafe. So if you intend to visit them, grab your main meal first as Cawaii Koohi does not cater to that.

So we ordered drinks. Above are the coffee Kyubei and myself ordered. Kinda boring I know but we’re both more a coffee drinker than soda drinker =/. Dan and Xiaobai being more spontaneous (and don't mind soda drinks) got the more interestingly named cocktails such as, Ranka Lee and Honey sempai.

Introducing .... Honey Sempai.

And Ranka Lee * does kira hand sign*

(omg my mobile photos are SO BAD! T_T)

We didn't get any desserts as we just had our lunch and were brimming to our throats. Not to mention none of the desserts appealed to us so…. n.n;; Apologies that I have no pictures of the maid as it was not allowed. But their costume were just like the mascot, consisting of deep maroon and white.

I found some pictures of the maid I took at Starfest. Posting here to give you guys an idea xD

Why is kyubei so cuteeeeeeee ?!?! *squishes* NO PAPARAZZI YO!

Overall the cafe has a more open concept than most maid cafes which some if not most REAL Otakus might not enjoy. But to the average consumer, I guess it doesn't really make a difference.I personally really liked the furnitures. Can you see the chairs we were sitting on? it was really comfy and at the *cough* perfect height.

*Gomen for the lousy pics but it was the only one I have of her with the bunny ears >.<*

The maids are pretty cute too and our favourite was Yui. Who looks kinda eurasian with her pretty eyes, thick eyebrow and cute curly hair! When we commented on how cute she looked with her bunny ears, she actually took it off voluntarily to let Kyubei wear it. So cute lah!

Dan took a polaroid with her. According to Dan, polaroid with maids are called checkie (spell check anyone?). And one picture with one maid will cost you $5.

Be prepared to be surprised when you ask for a Moe power-up and receives a blank stare. Apparently, that essential moe service was not taught to them. But the maids were accomodating and after a few visual demostrations by Dan and Kyubei, they eventually got it xD.

I don't really wanna give any grades or review for the cafe because I'm not qualified to. And especially seeing how it is just 2days old (we visited last Sunday). Themed/ concept cafe is really for the ambience and novelty. If you intend to visit then be prepared to embrace the ambience and price tag =)

Oh, SCC (Singapore Cosplay Club)was also having an Anime Karaoke event that weekend. So I took the chance to pose with their display mecha xD

Tsundere Cafe!

We've seen and gotten used to Moe Maid Cafes that treats you like a princess or a master. but have you seen one that throws straws and serve you coffee beans? Watch below xD

Such a big pity I can't understand what they are saying T_T. Any translator?

Through out the video I was so worried that the guys would lose their patience at some point and punch the cute maid in the face haha ^^;;;.

Do you think this cafe would work in Singapore or your own country? Leave a comment and share your view XD!

How to go Akibanana Maid Cafe (Singapore)

So I said I'll maybe try to take photos of the path to akibanana and …here they are! Was around the area today and managed to squeeze some time out of my schedule to take these. Am I dedicated or what xD!

To get there, you alight at the nearest MRT station, Tanjong Pagar MRT and turn left from the control station.

Go towards Exit A.

turn left from the control station.

19012010487

19012010485

You'll go up 2 escalators and exit from the station by turning left again.

19012010484

Turn left out !

19012010483

Follow the path and cross the zebra crossing.

19012010482

Walk down the path with big trees lining the sides.

19012010481

Continue walking down the path. At the direct front of the path (and you) is what looks like some HDB market and a very tall double tower condominium behind.

19012010480 19012010478

Turn right, following the path.

19012010476

This is roughly the scenery you’ll see.

19012010489

Walk down the path.

19012010490

Continue to walk until you see some old shophouses.

19012010491

Try to look out for the Neon Pink “Cola Spa” Signboard

 19012010492

19012010494

And there it is! Nestled right in between The New Harbour Cafe and Cola Spa. Almost impossible to miss :D Just look out for the “Cola Spa” Signboard ^_^

Hope you guys found this useful! Bookmark this page just in case you get lost, then you’ll be able to check with your mobile or whatever wireless enabled surfing device.

Akibanana Maid Cafe!

Alright, I’ve been delaying this due to work and my personal cosplay commitments. But its up now!

To give all of you a bit of a pre-text. Maid Cafe is a unique merchandise of the Otaku culture and has now become a unique trait of Japan and Akihabara. It is synonymous with Anima/Manga/Cosplay  (in fact, its a direct spin from fans who wanted to live in the fantasy world) and is representative of the feverish spending power of the Otakus.

Jumping back to the topic of this entry, my journey to a Maid Cafe!!!

Currently in Singapore, to our public knowledge, there are around 3 Maid Cafes. One at CHIJMES and another at ILLUMA. Akibanana is the latest to join the troupe and in my humble opinion, the most authentic one. But I think I’ll let the picture do the convincing =)

Lovely Light and curtain displays13012010436

There’s a mini Tatami set for 2 in front of the shop.

13012010438

The more proper dining tables. It has their mascot printed on it XD. Probably can’t tell from the picture but I love the pink cushion seat on the left side of the picture. It was very comfortable =)

13012010428

Lovely pink displays by the side

13012010431

 13012010409

We ordered a tea set for 4.

The tea cups are soooo cute T_T

13012010417

Too cute lah…so snapped more pics =D

13012010418

All the tea sets came with this cute teaspoon. can anyone educate me on why it has spikes? For lifting sugar cubes??? Anyway, lovely strawberry motif.

13012010411

Oops, another pic of the lovely tea sets and menu =)

13012010427

Magazines the very kawaii maid offered us to read. Oh yes, if you realise, this post won’t and can’t have any pictures of the maid :P

1301201043313012010443

The next side dish/finger food we tried was the Bird Nest. Basically fried chicken bits with quail egg and mini fried fries.

Nyanko plates!!!!!

13012010446

Oh! Maria ordered the Special Service too. Fuwa Fuwa Service xD!

Try guessing who the above Butler is xD??? She’s a very cute local Cosplayer and have done numerous moe characters including a Cosplay PV from a recent mecha anime xD. At the cafe she’s called Misaki !

A funny side incident to share. I was actually a little embarrassed and shy to enter the cafe and was really just looking forward to hiding in a corner unnoticed. My objective was to secretly ogle at the pretty maids * Hentai jiji alerts!* then come back and secretly blog about my secret adventure (Wad the fish??).

But the moment I stepped into the Cafe someone shouted “ KAIKA!!! ”.
EXPOSED IMMEDIATELY !!!! Undercover epic fails !
oTL*faints*

13012010449

Oh, they were in the middle of their Boot Camp competition for the new Maids and Butlers so the customers like ourselves were invited to evaluate their performance. No prize for guessing which slip is mine and which is maria‘s :P

Inuran joined us too at a later time.

13012010450

And there she is, scribbling her comments on the evaluation form. VERY serious business you know?

My Review:

Now for some personal reviews.

Personally, despite my deep interest in Cosplays and Japanese Anime/Manga I have never felt that inclinations towards such themed cafes. And the one at CHIJMES failed to ignite my interest 4 years ago so I stepped into Akibanana waiting to be disappointed. But I was pleasantly surprised =)

I like the place. I like its pastel coloured interior and cozy ambience. I like it’s quiet location and yeah…I just really like the whole quiet, secluded package. But of course, that’s before the crowd started coming in XD.

5 Stars for the authentic deco and set up. Could of course, be even more lavish in their deco but hey, its a new shop so I’m not gonna grind them on that. Though I do expect it to improve on it as time goes by :DD

The food menu definitely needs some buffing up. Not only was it way too costly, it didn’t make it pass my taste test either. Wasn’t bad, just not good enough. But then again, we come back to the point that you don’t go to a Maid Cafe expecting good food haha.

According to the boss of the Cafe, the maid costumes were specially designed by her and custom made from duchness satin. Expensive material!  They intend to have more themed events and costumes in the future to suit the various festivals. Also, level 2 will be opening up to public soon. It features a (two actually) more secluded theme ‘Rooms’ for those who are looking for privacy. Kudos to the owner for staying true to the concept of the Maid Cafes.

And my advice to novice Maid cafe customers like me, go into the cafe expecting services. Go in knowing that you are entering a theme cafe. What failed for me was to go in after a long day’s work and failing to appreciate and allow the whole maid thingy to soak in. Because like what Maria said, you go into the Maid Cafes to enjoy the company of the maids. And that’s precisely what every customer should attune themselves to I guess. But that’s just my opinion *Shrug*.

I highly recommend anyone who’s interest to go check it out. Its near Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. The road can be a little confusing but…walking distance la :D Maybe one day I’ll post some photo map to get there =)

Check out their official website for the latest menu and maid updates ;)

Maid Cafe

Alright alright, this has nothing to do with Cosplay. Because Cosplay, to the purist, are strictly restricted to the micmicking of a specific character from a Japanese Anime/Manga/Game/Drama series. And just donning a costume does not equal to “Cosplay”.

But erm, Maid Cafes are still something unique to the Otaku culture right?????

And I found (Maria fed them to me! ) some pretty interesting Maid cafe videos on youtube so I’d thought I’d share some stuffs with you guys on a boring saturday.

Morning Musume like live performance !

And different Maid Cafes have different theme. This is a video of the debut of this canned food the Maid cafe released. Kinda amazing huh?

I’m guessing this video was probably backdated from when the Movie /Drama “Densha Otoko” was released and the cafe have decided to jump onto the bustling bandwagon of selling a piece of the Otaku-ish to whoever that might be keen to buy.

Pinafore Can -Press Event-
In times of a souvenir craze at Akihabra, Pinafore cafe (famous from the Densha Otoko series) decided to release their new canned food line.
For some people It's moe inside a can.
More Info at:
http://www.akibatoday.com

I like their costume and their live singing skills! Apparently some Maid Cafes in Japan actually come out with CDs and songs of their own. And of course, that pushes the maid to celebrity level among the Otakus.

And here we have the HOST CLUBS! Hahaha and you thought Ouran Host Club was only in animes/drama. The butlers here are all females. I guess clients enjoy this kinda environment where they can enjoy the company of a masculine looking attendant without danger.

And of course, we have our Cosplay Cafe. Which also, caters more to the female customers with their attendants both cross dressing as male. And male customers are only allowed entry during certain time of the day.

I saved the best for the last. The most unique of the cafes would be these….

Want to see more xD?

Hahah hope you enjoyed all the videos xD. Quite  a few Maid Cafe have popped up in Singapore and one of the most recent ones would be “Akibanana” which I had the chance to check out with a few friends recently. Will be uploading pics and vid soon so look forward to seeing them on this space hokay ^_^?
