When Matt Damon told reporters earlier this year that Steven Soderbergh was retiring, it must have come as quite a shock to the Academy Award-winning director. Not only is Soderbergh busy with his new star-studded film Contagion, but he also has the secret agent action film Haywire coming out this winter.
As if those projects weren’t enough, now comes word that Soderbergh is making time in his busy schedule to work on The Hunger Games in the role of Second Unit Director.

In case there was ever any doubt in your mind, rest assured that Danny Elfman will score both of Tim Burton’s next two films (Dark Shadows and Frankenweenie). However, the famed musical talent will also re-team with Sam Raimi on his next film, Oz: The Great and Powerful – and is in talks to compose the soundtrack for Gary Ross’ adaptation of The Hunger Games.

Elfman also has Men in Black III on his to-do list over the next year, and provided the musical accompaniment for this fall’s Real Steel. Between him and Hans Zimmer, the two composers are seemingly going to be working on every other film due to hit theaters by 2012!

Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of the popular young adult novel, The Hunger Games made headlines on almost a daily basis this past April due to the studio’s slow-burn approach to announcing casting updates on the project – which, as it were, looks to have been a successful marketing tactic.
Now the studio has unleashed a more visually appealing (in all meanings of the term) tidbit for Hunger Games fans: the first official image of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the motion picture.

The list of either newcomers or rising stars that will play “tributes” in the film adaptation of the best-selling dystopian novel, The Hunger Games, continues to grow on a daily basis. Two more adolescent thespians have signed on for the film – and word has leaked out about some of the more noteworthy talents that’ve been approached to costar in the pic.

First things first: the nameless District 4 “career tributes” (i.e. young people who have trained their whole lives to compete in the titular event) will be played by relative unknowns Ethan Jamieson and Tara Macken.
