As much as we all love Guillermo del Toro, somebody needs to remind him that he can’t be involved with EVERY upcoming Hollywood movie.
The latest project set to utilize the creative talents of the Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker is a new version of Beauty and the Beast, as is being co-conceived by Denise Di Novi, the producer of early Tim Burton titles like Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Ed Wood. Suffice it to say, she and del Toro are undoubtedly planning a darker spin on the famous fairy tale.
According to Coming Soon, Emma Watson is set to headline the film, which would be her first post-Harry Potter starring role in a fantasy genre piece. She will next appear in the historical drama My Week with Marilyn later this year, and is also ...

Idris Elba will finally graduate from strong supporting player to full-fledged leading man in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. Legendary Pictures has been eying the respected (and busy) actor as a potential star of the sci-fi flick for a few weeks; now, a deal between the studio and Elba has been closed.

Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam will appear in Pacific Rim alongside Elba, who is set to tackle the role of Sensi. That part was originally conceived for Tom Cruise – back when he was circling the project in the wake of the collapse of del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness adaptation (which Cruise was set to star in).

Mike Mignola, the creator of HELLBOY, claims that a third film in the franchise is most likely not happening, reports The Daily Blam! Red’s first two adventures, 2004’s HELLBOY and 2008’s HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, were of course both written and directed by the extremely talented (yet foul mouthed) Guillermo del Toro.

Mignola was in attendance at the Calgary Expo over the weekend to discuss HB’s comic adventures, where he also was questioned about when we might again see some HELLBOY action on the silver screen.

'Last I heard he said he would not make it. Guillermo -- who I love -- in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy. I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make.”


Mignola is referring to the extreme filmmaking load that Del Toro has attached himself, including but not limited to an update of FRANKENSTEIN, SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE, Disney’s HAUNTED MANSION 3D reboot, and his expected next, PACIFIC RIM (which may have just cast Charlie Day).

With all these projects on his plate, it does seem unlikely that del Toro would ever find time for another HELLBOY picture and even more unlikely that a studio would finance such a sequel without del Toro shepherding it through the incredibly selective green light process.
