DC Plans Midnight Releases for 'Justice League' #1, 'Flashpoint' #5

DC Plans Midnight Releases for 'Justice League' #1, 'Flashpoint' #5: "
If you cant wait for the release of the Flashpoint finale (issue #5) and the first issue of the new 52's Justice League of America #1 by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, we've got good news for you. DC Comics revealed today that both issues will be released early and will be made available at local comic shops across the country as early as 12:01 A.M. on August 31st.

This means that there is a good chance your local comic shop will not only make the issue available in store a good twelve hours early, but that they may even hold a special in store release party to celebrate the big event. As if the launch of the new DC Universe wasn't reason enough to get to the comic shop early, the chance to pick up the issue and party sounds like a good time to us. Will you be hitting your local shop to pick up your copy the night of the release, or will you take a chance on the issue being sold out by hitting your local shop at the usual time?

SDCC 2011: DC Flashpoint Panel LiveBlog

SDCC 2011: DC Flashpoint Panel LiveBlog: "

With Flashpoint in full gear, what new things will DC bring to the table with this summer event? Welcome to the very first of many live blogs from panels here at San Diego Comic Con! First one up is the Flashpoint panel coming to you live from SDCC in room 6DE.
There's no doubt that with Flashpoint we've seen some insane changes to the DC Universe, but will some of these changes become permanent fixtures in the DCU, and how will Flashpoint, as a whole, affect the DC Revamp in September? Hopefully some of these changes will be answered at this panel.
11:30- Introductions, J.T. Krul, Dan Jeurgens, Sterling Gates, Joel Gomez. Bob Wayne, Senior V.P. of sales steps up to the mic. Wayne Casino Poker Chips are mentioned. They will be giving $100 chips away, which are rare, to great questions.
11:35- Art work for Flashpoint covers and Booster Gold. (My camera isn't working. Awesome!) Deathstroke cover for Flashpoint mini-series, obviously issue #3. Kid Flash cover by Francis Manapul. Sterling Gates talks about how he jumped at the chance to do the Kid Flash tie-in. Tease: There's something in the third issue that will make you want to tear you book apart? They do something with the speed force that's never been done before.
11:40- J.T. Krul think he has some of the coolest covers for the Flashpoint mini-series, for the Flying Graysons mini-series. Cover of issue two of the mini-series is on the big screen. Krul talks about the the characters in the book, and how he likes seeing Rag Doll and Doctor Fate in the book.
11:45- Cover for Abin Sur #3 tie in. They left it on the screen for a whole 3 seconds. It was Abin Sur creating a mace construct and smashing someone. Issue 3 of Hal Jordan is up now. It's Hal flying a plane in full gear. Abin Sur cover is back up. Now gone... Outsider #3 cover is up. Looks like Martian Manhunter has smashed the Outsider. He's holding his head. Questions from the audience time...
11:47-Can't head the questions or answers because the room next to us is horribly loud. It's all annoying bass. Question: Where's Wally? Is he a part of the new 52? Answer: Come to new 52 panel. He will be in Kid Flash #3. Question: Is there one character you wanted to do a Flashpoint character book on that you couldn't? Answer: You'll see a few more pop up. One is living in the DCU and one isn't.
11:51-Question for Sterling: Why is Bart falling on each cover? Answer: He's lost and see issue three. 'He's dropped into the future and Francis [Manapul] took that literally.' Question: Who's idea was it for the Batman Flashpoint book? Answer: Sounds like they just let Brian Azzarello go nuts. That's what I'm taking from the answers from the panel. Question: Thanks for doing the 'Draw the line at $2.99.' (He gets a black poker chip) Could these stories become series on their own? Answer: Go to new 52 panel. Pick up Flashpoin #5. It will show you how we get from Flashpoint to the revamp.
11:58- Question: Will we be able to see Flashpoint characters in the revamp? Answer: Characters like Aquaman and Batman don't fit in, but who knows? Maybe in the future. Question/Statement: Guy wants to hear stories about behind the scenes Flashpoint. Answer: Johns wanted to do something big with Flash. It was an overnight process. Not too much info.
12:02- Question: Is Flashpoint a vehicle to bring back a non-popular character? Answer: Johns likes Flash more than Green Lantern. Another question the panel can't really answer.
12:05- Question: Did Reverse Flash do everything on his own? Answer: Flashpoint #5. Question: How was Citizen Cold chosen to be the hero in the mini-series? Answer: Johns really wanted to put Cold in the spotlight and it's his second favorite character. Question: Dove (Hawk and Dove has a question) asks, she only reads what her room mates brings home and leaves on the toilet. How should she get him to read Flashpoint? Answer: Read Flashpoint #1.
12:12- Someone's phone goes off and it's the intro to the old Wonder Woman show, Question: Where is Wally West? Answer: They avoided the question. Something big may be going on with Wally West.

Lois Lane Behind Enemy Lines in Her Flashpoint Mini-Series

Lois Lane Behind Enemy Lines in Her Flashpoint Mini-Series: "
There's no question about it; Flashpoint's offshoot titles are doing exceedingly well. Not only are they selling better than many retailers anticipated, but they have actually been quite good. Many of the new interpretations of familiar characters have been completely altered- which is what's making these stories so exciting. Earlier today, DC revealed their preview to Flashpoint: Lois Lane and the Resistance, giving CBR the preview. What will happen to Lois Lane when she's caught in the midst of a war between the Atlanteans and the Amazons? And why the decision to give Lois the spotlight in her own three issue mini series?

“Lois is a great character – one of the rare iconic characters in comics who have no powers. This series makes her the eyes on the ground in the middle of war between SUPER superpowers,” writer Dan Abnett told us. “Should a reporter cross the line and get involved the story? And if they do, can they make a real difference when the other players are demi-god superheroes?”

It's often the job of the reporter to cross between the lines and put themselves in danger in order to bring the full, real story to the people- so it's pretty cool to see Lois do this in her very own Flashpoint mini series. It's also great to finally see Lois Lane receive recognition and be given her own book where she can independently flex her muscles without being a prop for Superman- which is usually what ends up happening.
With the official solicits for the #1 issues of Action Comics and Superman due to hit stores this fall as part of DC's revamp, there has been no mention of Lois Lane. Many readers have been speculating about Lois Lane's future, whether she and Superman will be together and whether or not she will have a place in the revamped DCU at all. Between her absence from the recent Superman story arc, 'Grounded' and the rumors of DC's plans to split Lois Lane and Superman, what does Lois' future hold? DC Co-Publisher Dan Didio recently stated in an interview with NBC that the relationship between Lois and Clark is being 'reexamined.'
“Let’s just say it's being reexamined,” says Didio, “because it's something that I think is something that is so valuable to the character's story that you really want to explore all facets of it. Not just as it exists currently.”
While this in no way explains what the future holds for Lois Lane, it's safe to say that based on what Dan Didio has to say, things will likely not stay the same for the heralded reporter. Even though we don't know what will happen to Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Lois Lane, the most well respected journalist in all of the DC Universe, at least it's nice to enjoy her in her very own Flashpoint mini-series; something I think a lot of fans can appreciate. What do you think of the preview to Flashpoint: Lois Lane and the Resistance? Are you looking forward to the revamp of the DCU, and if so, what do you want to see happen to Superman and Lois Lane?

FLASHPOINT: GRODD OF WAR one-shot. Is it literature or is it pablum?

FLASHPOINT: GRODD OF WAR one-shot. Is it literature or is it pablum?: "

In stores today from DC Comics is Sean Ryan and Ig Guara's Falshpoint: Grodd of War.

This one-shot intrigues me to no end, but I can't really put my finger on why.

Something about an entire comic exploring the character of a super-intelligent gorilla who has conquered the entirety of Africa, yet remains completely unsatisfied with any of his accomplishments, sounds like it could, perhaps, be a metaphor for the human condition.

But I'm not sure how or why I even think this.

Check out some preview pages after the jump and then let me know what you think. Better yet, buy the thing, read it, and then get back to me.

You rule an entire continent. You are feared. You are infamous. You are Grodd.

You have everything you’ve ever wanted. And you are miserable.

Why? Writer Sean Ryan, penciller Ig Guara and inker Ruy Jose answer this question by bringing us a twisted character study of a great, if restless, criminal mind in the FLASHPOINT: GRODD OF WAR one-shot.

Flashpoint: "Today The World Changes"

Flashpoint: "Today The World Changes": "

Everything changes. Nothing will ever be the same. We've heard these promises before but there's no denying that things will indeed be changing in Flashpoint. With Geoff Johns DC Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer, he has become the creative guiding force leading the DC Universe. Starting Wednesday, May 11, he is taking the DCU (and us) on a ride we won't forget.
The teasers we've seen before have led to much speculation. Why is Batman running a casino? How did Superman end up in a government facility? What does the marriage of Wonder Woman and Aquaman mean for the world? How the heck did all this happen?

It will all begin with Barry Allen, working in the CSI division in Central City. He will discover that his mother, who was killed when he was a child, is alive. The heroes he knew are nowhere to be found. Who can he turn to try to solve this huge mystery? You're allowed to take one guess.
Flashpoint has been in the planning stages for nearly two years now. This summer we will see sixteen miniseries and four one shots that will expand upon the world seen as a result of Flashpoint.
People are bound to start complaining about another comic book event. I see it as a gigantic and exciting story to dive into. The nice thing about the miniseries is you have a choice of buying them. No one is twisting your arm. Passing on them will just mean you're going to miss out on the crazy action that is just beginning. Also keep in mind that DC has canceled several titles so these will not take over the shelves at your local comic shop. (Check out the first checklist here).
It's a bold move. I will admit I am reminded a little of Age of Apocalypse in the X-Men comics in the mid 90s. Only this is on a much grander scale. I'm tempted to get a giant tub of popcorn to eat as I sit back and read these comics. I just don't want to get butter stains on the pages and I turn them.
Flashpoint #1 is on sale this week. It's written by Geoff Johns with art by Andy Kubert. If you're a fan of DC comics, you will want to check this out. Run to your local comic shop (unless you have a car) and witness the change of the DC Universe.
