Castles & Cooks: For Geeks Who Love Food

Castles & Cooks: For Geeks Who Love Food: "

Other than fantasy stories, gadgets, and superheroes, what is the one other thing that you would geek out for? If asked that question, there really is only one answer I could give: food, glorious food!

That is why I just had to write about Cooking for Geeks last year. How can you not get enthralled with something like that? And today, I just discovered another really cool site that is all about food AND geeky references. It’s called Castles & Cooks,1 and no food-loving geek will fail to drool over it. Literally.

Castles & Cooks is a blog run by cooks who game – and gamers who cook. The guys are really enthusiastic about the two activities, and their passion shines through in their writing. Browsing through the blog, I couldn’t help but be reminded of The Inn at the Crossroads – the blog dedicated to food from Game of Thrones. Castles & Cooks covers a broader area, though, but I found some really cool recipes that would be perfect for some fun in the kitchen.

Here are some of my favorites (although I haven’t tried them out yet!).

Game of Thrones Lemon Cakes

Game of Thrones Lemon Cake

You know I’m a sucker for George R.R. Martin’s work, so it shouldn’t surprise you that a Game of Thrones food item makes it to this collection. The original recipe comes from celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, but Jesse of Castles & Cooks tweaked it to suit his purposes. I wouldn’t mind into one or two of these right now!

Butterbeer

Butterbeer

Remember Jayvee’s recent post on recipes for butterbeer? Jesse shares his own butterbeer recipe, emphasizing that the most important thing is to make dark simple syrup. Go practice getting this right so that the next time you have a Harry Potter-themed party, you’ll seal your reputation as a butterbeer master.

Gollum Juice

Serkis Gollum

When I first saw the recipe name, I was not so enticed. Then again, I just had to find out what it was about. Apparently. Gollum Juice was born out of the need of actor Andy Serkis (who played Gollum). Because of Gollum’s voice, Serkis’s throat suffered. Gollum Juice took care of that. And don’t worry, it’s not that bad. It has water, ginger, honey, lemon, and cinnamon. It actually sounds good!

Barbarian Braised Ribs

Barbarian Braised Ribs

Barbarians may not be the most pleasant of companions, but no one can deny their strength in battle. And guess where that strength comes from? I wouldn’t be surprised if these Barbarian Braised Ribs has something to do with it.

That’s just a sampling of what you can find in Castles & Cooks. I don’t know about you, but I think it shall become a regular source of ideas for me!
