Recently there was talk that Steven Spielberg sat down with writer Mark Protosevich to discuss possible directions to take JURASSIC PARK IV.Joe Johnston, director of JURASSIC PARK III, was finally coaxed into commenting on JP4 by Screen Rant during an interview about his latest, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Said Johnston:
We are in discussions about JURASSIC PARK IV. The most important thing I can tell you is that it starts a new trilogy that will go off in a different direction — a completely different direction that is very exciting, and different from anything we’ve seen. It starts with the history of the first trilogy, but it spins it off in a completely different direction. That’s all I can tell you.
I hope to God this different direction is not the previously discussed super-dinos with guns treatment of JURASSIC PARK IV from years ago.
Screen Rant points out that Johnston previously commented that he'd like to see the franchise leave the island, as it was hard enough to come up with a reason to get people to go back the first two times. So, we can safely assume this new direction does not involve theme park islands.
