The company today announced that Kaz Hirai, the current president and group CEO of SCEI will move the to the position of chairman. Taking his place will be Andrew House, the current president, CEO, and co-COO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. House's job will in turn be taken by SCEE executive VP and co-COO, Jim Ryan. These changes will take place on September 1, 2011. Akira Sato, SCEI's current chairman, is set to retire the day before, on August 30.
Likewise, as of yesterday, Ken Kutaragi -- the 'father of PlayStation' -- has retired from his role as honorary chairman, a position he assumed in 2007. Prior to that announcement, reports started to come out that suggested he had communication problems with certain individuals and divisions of Sony, which may have prompted the move to some extent. He won't completely be leaving the company even after his retirement, as it's said he'll continue to be a senior technology adviser for Sony.
