Yes, I’m positively batty for Batman…
I’m currently in the middle of a couple complicated custom jobs (that aren’t Batman related) and I decided that in my down time, waiting for something to cure, dry, etc., I should do something fun and easy that would actually go on my shelf. And as it turns out, I’ve ended up with my favorite custom Batman.
One of the cool things about making a custom Batman is, there is so much fodder to choose from, you can practically build a custom of the Dark Knight without any painting or sculpting! I did do a little painting on this custom though. There was a small spot on his left boot where the gray plastic underneath the black was showing but it was easily covered up with a dab of GW Citadel Chaos Black. Citadel Chaos Black is an almost exact match for Mattel’s matte black and it blends great when it dries.

- Hush/Jim Lee Batman Head from the DCD Unmasked Series Batman
- DCD Trinity/Matt Wagner Batman Cape
- TRU Exclusive DCUC Batman Body
- DCSH Batman Belt
- DCUC Regen Suit Superman Right Fist
I know there are a lot of customs out there with this Jim Lee style head, but I can’t think of an in scale, better looking Batman head that fits the DCUC body. The Unmasked BM head was made to be interchangeable but I had to widen the peg hole just a little.
The Trinity Batman cape lays great after the tabs that anchored it to the original DCD body have been removed. It only takes a few small dabs of Zap-A Gap glue help to hold it in place. The cape is light, flexible and allows for greater range of posing than the thick heavy DCUC cape.
The trickiest part was the belt. Using an Exacto knife and working from the back, I carefully sliced off the DCUC belt. The DCSH is a bit thicker than the DCUC belt, so I had to grind down the inside disc of the DCSH belt to make it fit in the waist. Then I made a cut in the DCSH belt so that the split ran between the back pouches and wouldn’t be apparent once it was on and glued back together.
And that is that, about an hour of work and I have my absolute favorite Batman!
