Artists have now been confirmed.
We've had a lot of DC announcements but they did say there would be 52 new #1s announced. Who's keeping track, how many have we had so far? Today's latest batch of new titles and announcements has a bit of a darker side that might surprise some. Entertainment Weekly's Shelf Life has the details.
The first I have been waiting for since doing a massive research on Swamp Thing back in April. Swamp Thing #1 will be written by Scott Snyder (I may have mentioned that I really dig his writing once or twice before). Shelf Life doesn't include information on who is doing the art but the cover we see is by Yanick Paquette. UPDATE: Snyder has confirmed that Paquette is the main artist with Francesco Francavilla on special fill-in issues.
A new title coming out is Justice League Dark #1. I think people will either like this or...not like it so much. Labeled as 'a band of supernatural heroes,' the team will consist of John Constantine, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man and Madame Xanadu. Some will probably be upset that (most of) these characters were taken out of the Vertigo universe but at least with them working together, they'll be exploring the darker areas of the DC Universe. I say wait and see what happens before complaining. Also, it will be written by Peter Milligan, so that's pretty cool. The artist will be Mikel Janin.
That's not all, there's more.
Animal Man #1 brings the return of the character that has been far too underused lately. I'll be curious to see what direction they take him. It will be written by Jeff Lemire. The art will be done by Travel Foreman and Dan Green.
Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #1 will also be written by Jeff Lemire. The creature we've seen in the DC Universe will be joined by other fictional monsters serving in a government organization: The Super Human Advanced Defense Executive. Art will be by Alberto Ponticelli.
Finally, Demon Knights #1 will have super-heroism set in medieval times. Written by Paul Cornell, he stated (via Twitter), "Demon Knights isn't going to be like Knight & Squire, but dark and bloodthirsty. We'll be going medieval on you." Cornell will be joined by Diogenes Neves and Oclair Albert on art.
We'll have to stay tuned to see if there are other announcements today and we'll have to hold tight until the art teams are revealed.
But wait, there's more!
DC's The Source, while confirming the artist above, has also announced the following:Resurrection Man #1 will be by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning with art by Fernando Dagnino. Resurrection Man is the story of a hero who wakes up with new powers each time he's killed.
I, Vampire #1 will be by Josh Fialkov and artist Andrea Sorrentino. 'Tortured by his centuries-old love for the Queen of the Damnned, Andrew Bennett must save humanity from the violent uprising of his fellow vampires, even if it means exterminating his own kind.'
Voodoo #1 will feature Priscilla Kitaen (yes, from the Wildstorm Universe!). She's a half-alien hybrid confronting the secrets of her past in order to make sense of the nightmare her life has suddenly become. Voodoo will be written by Ron Marz with art by Sami Basri/sami-basri/26-45275/.
