Wonder Woman's Cancellation: NBC Talks

Wonder Woman's Cancellation: NBC Talks: "
Wonder Woman: First Look At Adrianne Palicki In Full Costume!

Wonder Woman won't be twirling her way to NBC's primetime lineup this Fall. It's a fact we learned last week with no official explanation given. However, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt has now gone public regarding the axing of everyone's favorite amazon.

From what had been revealed over the past few months, the David E. Kelley-conceived drama starring Adrianne Palicki seemed laden with a campy, whimsical vibe which would be soundly rejected by legions of fans. Yet, the audience whose fate on which it ultimately rested, the NBC brass, were the ones who would see fit to put the kibosh on Diana of Themyscira's live-action return before it even had a chance to hit.

Find out why.

According to Greenblatt, it was a matter of the show not being compatible with the network's primetime schedule:

“I hate to disappoint anybody. I know there are legions of fans of the original show,” Greenblatt told EW. “I don’t know if it’s cursed or what. I just have this one experience. They made a really fine pilot and Adrianne Palicki did a fantastic job. You look at what you have, what you need, and it just didn’t seem to fit in with what we were doing."

“We did what was best for the schedule,” Greenblatt continued. “It does give one pause. You’re almost damned if you and damned if you don’t. It’s tricky.”

Whether or not the official explanation matches up with the actual one, it is worth pointing out that what we saw of the show seemed to evolve gradually along with the fan feedback from the released pics. From the changes made from the initial form of the costume, it was clear that there was at least some effort on the part of the creative forces behind the show to placate the irate hardcore fanbase. In that sense, the "scheduling" explanation could be legit.

As Greenblatt explains:

“I was surprised there was such an uproar. But that didn’t have anything to do with whether the show got picked up. I love that it got so much attention. All that engagment from people whether it was positive or negative was good. And she did ultimately have these little hot pants…”

At this point, there is speculation that the show could be shopped around to other networks, in all likelihood one that just wrapped-up another long-running DC Comics superhero drama just last Friday. (Yeah, The CW.) However, it's just as likely that the show could end up completely scrapped; a fate that has befallen many once-promising pilots.
