With only a few reported issues involving the password reset system, Sony started rolling out their phased restoration of limited PlayStation Network services this weekend to North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Conspicuously missing from the list is Sony's own home turf: Japan.


According to a report by Nikkei, Japanese authorities are blocking Sony from bringing PSN online in their domestic territory until the company can demonstrate that certain new security measures have been met; specifically, the report points out two key areas mentioned by Kazushige Nobutani, the director of the Media and Content Industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
