HOGUN: The Grim

HOGUN : The Grim: "
BAH! My final answer would be, 'Passeth me the million dollars now 'ere I separate they babbling head from thy shoulders, Regis!'

--HOGUN

Who is HOGUN?

HOGUN is part of the fabled Warriors Three along with Volstagg and Fandral, which all are good friends to Thor. HOGUN is a short-tempered Asgardian. He is a skilled battlefield warrior, a great horseman, and a master of weapons. He prefers the use of a mace when battling his enemies.

HOGUN the Grim is a Marvel character created by penciller Jack Kiry and writer Stan Lee, Lee envisioned him as sharing several traits with characters played by actor Charles Bronson. He made his first comicbook appearance in Journey into Mystery #119 (August, 1965).

first appearance

The only thing known about HOGUN's past is that he's not an Aesir like most of the Asgardians. (Aesir is the 'tribe' where Odin, Thor, and the other Norse gods belong). HOGUN's homeland was conquered and laid waste.

HOGUN is primarily characterized by his brusque, taciturn, and often short-tempered demeanor. He is the brooding pessimist of their group, as opposed to Volstagg's irrepressible good humor and Fandral's brash heroism. He is a fierce and unrelenting warrior, a collector of weaponry and often the voice of reason for the Warriors Three.

HOGUN has a long history associated with defending Asgard and adventuring with his friends. Here are some of HOGUN's battles:

HOGUN's exploits are mostly shown in Thor and Thor related series, his contact with other parts of Marvel Universe is minimal. HOGUN has fairly stayed with his look throughout most of his comicbook existence.

LIVE APPEARANCE

HOGUN is played by Tadanobu Asano in the 2011 Marvel Studios live-action film Thor.

POWERS & ABILITIES

Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

HOGUN possesses various superhuman attributes common to all Asgardians.

Superhuman Strength: Like all Asgardians, HOGUN is superhumanly strong. His strength is somewhat greater than the average male Asgardian and he can lift about 35 tons.

Superhuman Speed: HOGUN can run and move at speeds superior to that of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman reflexes

Superhuman agility

Superhuman Stamina: HOGUN's advanced musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins than the musculature of a human. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue begins to impair him, which is about average for an Asgardian.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: HOGUN's skin, muscle, and bone tissues have about 3 times the density as the bodily tissue of a human being. This contributes, at least somewhat, to HOGUN's superhuman strength and his weight.

Superhuman Durability: HOGUN's body is much harder and more resistant to injury than the body of a human. HOGUN can withstand powerful impact forces, falls from great heights, and exposure to temperature and pressure extremes without sustaining injury.

Extended Longevity: Like all other Asgardians, HOGUN ages at an extremely slow pace compared to humans.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his body's resistance to injury, like all Asgardians, he isn't physically invulnerable. If injured, his body can rapidly repair damaged tissue with much greater efficiency than an ordinary human.

AbilitiesHOGUN is an excellent hand to hand combatant and horseman. He is also an expert in all forms of Asgardian weaponry, particularly the mace.
