Brink Lag Issues Being Investigated, Updates Detailed

Brink Lag Issues Being Investigated, Updates Detailed: "

Brink

Brink came out this week to a somewhat mediocre response by many; 1UP's review gave it a D, and among the complaints were many of the technical issues the game suffers from. An update for the game has been released on consoles to address certain problems, and developer Splash Damage says it's aware of the lag issues currently impacting the online experience.

Brink director Paul Wedgwood shared an update on the Bethesda Blog today outlining what the recent console patch did and what other fixes are coming. The day one update -- released on both Xbox 360 and PS3, the latter of which can still download updates despite PSN being down -- aims to fix a number of things. Certain freezing issues are removed, only the introductory tutorial is now initially played, and, more importantly, it addresses rubber banding ('you'll experience much less') and decreases the load times on textures through better hard drive caching. You can check out the Editor's Note at the end of 1UP's Brink review for some thoughts on how well the update fixed those issues.

There have been widespread complaints both before and after launch that lag plagues the online experience. Some had hoped yesterday's update would make things better, but that doesn't appear to have been the case. Wedgwood wrote, 'We've also been getting new reports of lag when playing online, especially in matches with lots of human players. We're all huge multiplayer fans here at the office and we know how important a lag-free online experience is. We're urgently investigating this issue and seeing what we can do to improve things in that area. Stay tuned.'
