How Many Justice Leagues Can We Take?

How Many Justice Leagues Can We Take?: "

If Rich Johnston is to be believed, DC is planning a new Justice League International series to spin out of this week’s finale to Justice League: Generation Lost. If true, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense; Generation Lost has cemented the characters into a unit after some years of them being in the wilderness – Since, what, Extreme Justice? Excepting I Can’t Believe It’s Not Justice League, I guess – and I’ve always wondered why Teen Titans and Justice Society became franchises while Justice League has remained relatively untouched since the JLA/JLA/Extreme Justice era that predated Grant Morrison’s revamp of the series, especially in the light of Marvel’s massively successful Avengers expansion. But Johnston also says “it’s not the only exciting Justice League book I hear has been scheduled,” which leads me to wonder… Is Brightest Day also leading up to a new Justice League book?

Think about it: The core cast of Brightest Day are all old-school Justice Leaguers: Aquaman, Firestorm, Hawkman and Hawkwoman and Martian Manhunter (Add in supporting character who’ll be looking for a book once Brightest Day finishes, the Atom, too). Their solo storylines in Brightest Day have all been resolved for the most part, leaving them open to new opportunities. Add to that, the fact that Geoff Johns has been rumored to be attached to a Justice League project for a very long time now – So long, in fact, that I’d just assumed it was more wishful thinking than anything else – and with the end of both Flash and Brightest Day, could have time in his schedule after Flashpoint (especially if he doesn’t return to Flash in whatever form that new book would take). Oh, and mix in the fact that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern aren’t currently part of any superteam, as well.

Am I the only one who thinks that there might soon be three Justice Leagues from DC? James Robinson’s current JLA team, the JLI team, and a third team made up of the classic big guns from the 1970s/1980s status quo, with Geoff Johns attached in some way? Just Imagine…
