Soo, all I have to do for my Elf Fantasy outfit is sewing on some more beads by hand, and making a top (with help from the lovely Sheridan of Candyphobia).
Then I started thinking: how am I going to do my makeup?
We're al going to go Venetian-like. My boyfriend and brother obviously don't need any makeup, and my mother will be wearing a mask so hers will be kept quite simple.
But what about me?
I haven't found a mask I like so far: they're all the wrong kind of gold, and they're all combined with other colours. And I don't have the time and energy to make a new mask (or the resources, since all mask bases here in Belgium are sloppy asymmetric junk).
So I was considering painting one on.
Then I found this video on youtube. It popped up as a 'related video' when I was looking for folk music (thank you, Youtube, but also: fail). Not everything in this video is good, but there's some stuff in there that I'd really like to use.
Then Karen, my best friend (who is a Make Up Forever academy student) told me about this awesome Petrilude video.
I've been contemplating the makeup issue ever since.
I like Michelle Phan's idea of the subtle lace patterns on skin. I'd like to use that, since Venetian stuff is all about decadence and elegance anyways. It would also look good with the whole idea of masks.
The gold leaf ('gold flakes', as she calls it) is a definite keeper. My mother actually works with this stuff, so I don't even have to go looking for it. However, I wouldn't like it on my eyelids. Michelle Phan shot this video in half a day, so I'm guessing the only had this on her face for half an hour. I'm looking for something I can run around in for a full day. This isn't it. The Petrilude one is much better for that. It's out of the way and looks absolutely awesome. Also, I don't like the shape of my eyebrows, and their colour is too dark for this particular costume. So gold leaf would be perfect to hide that.
The gold-coloured paper lace would be a bad idea though. I'm going to use gold. Actual gold (no, actually I'm going to use fake gold - but it still looks VERY real). Fakity-fake paper right next to that will look tacky. Very tacky.
I'd also use more gold and less black. Gold/bronze/copper eyeliner, and hopefully fake lashes in gold as well (still need to acquire those though). Black is too harsh for the creamy goldy colour I'm using.
For the rest: my entire costume is full of pearls. Hair, earrings, necklace, bracelet, dress. So using pearls on my face would be a pretty neat idea. It would make the whole thing even more coherent, if nothing else. Plus, they add to the whole luxurious "turning everything into riches and wealth"-idea - which is sorta what I'm going for.
Suggestions? Tutorials I really need to draw inspiration from?
I seriously need your help!!
