DCUO - The Official NERD NEWS Review

I was talking to a friend the other day that reminded me of how I didn't write nearly as much as use to or not nearly as much as I should here (not the first time its been mentioned to me)

I like criticism - it wakes you up - to your faults & makes you aware of where you're lacking. I had begun to believe we were now in a video world - and we are - but he reminded me that folks out there still like to read.

Now, I like this kid - if I didn't I would've told him to shove it up his ass and kept it moving, but I respect this guy so I refrained. I knew him when he was a kid and he's grown into a fine man that I hope I had a hand in influencing (because my ego is huge)

Nonetheless - to the reason you all came here - my review of DC Universe Online (dcuo)

WOW!....That's it - that's my review.

Oh ok - Damn - you readin muthaf**kas are demanding.

First the bad - because there is so little of it & I believe their working on the problem so - I think its going to be a thing of the past very soon. 

Server failures. 

The game has only been out for literally a couple days and the first month of the $14.95 a month subscription fee is free (with a code provided in the packaging) so its not a crazy big deal but yesterday (1/16/11 - as the Jets beat the Patriots to move on to the AFC championship) the servers kept going down. 

The demand for life in the game has obviously surpassed the expectations of the designers (game selling out here and abroad) that they had to add more servers & are adding more in the coming weeks.

For most of the day the game had been down and since you can't play unless you're online - you can't play.

That being said - if you like comics (DC in particular), video games, RPGs (Roll Playing Games) or God forbid all of the above - this is your Nirvana!

I use to play RPGs (pencil & paper - not this computer crap) & I created a character from back then and wow if it wasn't like my imagination had finally come to life.

Not to mention, this is my first foray into online role playing - so I didnt even think I'd dig this. But much like I hated FPSs (first person shooters) before Halo I believe I have stumbled onto my next great addiction.

You feel like a superhero! I created a couple of characters but I seem partial to the brawlers.

There's just something about going in and pounding your enemy into submission - but long range attacks are fun too.

Flying in the massive city is the shit & just checking out what others have come up with for their characters is very very cool.

As I said the game has only been out a couple days and alot of that has been plagued by server issues - so I havent had a chance to really go crazy and explore. But from what I've play if you own a PS3 or a pc - check this game out -

Its like you're playing a comic book - how can you go wrong?
